Improving your
Speaking in English
Nowadays,
knowing a foreign language is such a crucial issue in all parts of the world.
Not only in your education but also in your working life, you are expected to
know at least one different language except for your mother tongue. Among the
languages, English is both the most known and the most necessary one. So, if
you want to be successful and respected, you should learn this language as
quick as possible. However, learning English will not be enough for you. Also,
you have to improve it in order to speak in a correct and fluent way. It will
be easy to improve your speaking if you follow these three steps.
Watching
movies or news channels is the first step of this issue. Of course you should
watch them without subtitles. Instead of using subtitles, you had better use
headphones to hear clearly. If you do like this, your brain will be affected
directly in a positive way. Also, you can use the words and sentences which you
heard in the movie while speaking.
The
second step is listening music in English. You can have some fun while doing
this step, too. First, try to guess what it is said in the song while listening.
Later, open its lyrics and start to sing by looking and hearing them. Because
of doing this, you will be familiar with the correct pronunciation of the
words. Thus, while speaking with someone, your possibility of making
pronunciation mistakes will be lower.
The
third and also the last step is speaking too much with foreigners or your
friends. In these days, social-network websites are very popular among people.
You can create an account of one of them and you can meet with several people
there. After meeting with them, you can start to speak each other via camera
and microphone. What is more, if you do not have the opportunity of creating an
account, you can do practice with your close friends who are trying to do same
thing like you.
All
in all, improving your speaking in English is needed to follow these steps such
as watching movies or news channels, listening music in English and speaking
with foreigners or people around you. In my opinion, it will not be difficult
to improve your speaking if you keep these steps in your mind. Furthermore, these
are both enjoyable and beneficial ways to improve it.

One of my Lessons at the Department of ELT
One of my Lessons at the
Department of ELT
For about six months, I have been studying at Yeditepe University at the department of English Language Teaching. Today’s date is 22 March, 2012 and now I am in the lesson of the Survey of English Literature. Except for me, there are seven students and a teacher in the classroom. The teachers’ name is Nina and she is a native speaker, too. Nina wears casual clothes such as a pair of dungarees and a shirt. When I look at the environment of the classroom, I can see a board, a picture of Atatürk above it and a plan which shows the floor where my class is stated. Also, there is only one technological device which is called projector and the color of the walls is ice blue. What is more, all students have their own desks and these desks are placed randomly. At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher explains us the mid-term date, asks about what we did last week and talks about today’s topic. Of course, the topic is about one of the writers’ novel which is called Pamela. When she is talking about Pamela which was written by Samuel Richardson, she uses her notes to mention the most important points of it. Moreover, she is standing in front of the board and using her hands while speaking. After giving some information about the novel, she wants us to read the first two pages of it and to highlight the sentences. When we start to do so, there is a big silence in the classroom. Furthermore, I want to say that even though Nina is a native speaker, the way she speaks is not fast.
In my opinion, first of all, the environment of the classroom is very simple and this is suitable for us in the view of not taking our attraction. Then, there is no seating arrangement but I think it is not very important for the students who are at least 19 year old. Lastly, as far as I see, the way the teacher teaches is not only good but also clear and I am not getting bored during her lesson.

A Sorrowful Man
Joseph seems very sorrowful in this photograph. It can be considered from the posture of him. Even though he has completely white hair which shows his senescence, on some parts of his head there is no hair. His forehead is wide and there are lots of both wrinkles and skin blemishes on it. These wrinkles and blemishes tell us he faced with several difficulties during his life. Joseph is beetle-browed. May be he tries to seem tough by posing like this since he does not want to express his sad feelings about his wife, Kate, who has died recently. Also, his eyebrows are not thick and the color of them is white, too. Below the eyebrows, he has colorful eyes which are looking directly into the camera with a big pain. Besides, he seems as if he is about to cry because of his being lonely. The way he looks also says that he thinks there is no point of living without his wife for the rest of his life. Therefore, he wants to die, too. What is more, Joseph has a wide nose. Below it, because of his old age, he has lost many of his teeth and that is why his lips seem very thin. Moreover, he has beard which covers half of his face but for its being white, it cannot be seen clearly. When we look at Joseph’s clothes, we understand that although he is not in a good situation, his dressing is really neat. May be this man thinks this is the last time that he was taken a photo before he dies. To conclude, when the photo was taken, it is seen obviously that there is a man who is weary of life.

The Insane Child
- The Insane Child -
Carters
moved to a new lake house because of some different reasons. They were living
in their new house without knowing anything about what they will face. Who
could guess that house was going to bring bad luck?
Scarlett, 15 year old child of Carters, was insisting her father, Bobby, and her mother, Annie, on visiting her uncle, Peter, who she loved very much. The parents accepted her proposal and in a short time, they were ready to go. Maybe that was the last day for Scarlett in the view of sharing some time with her mother. There was half an hour left to reach Peter’s house, all of a sudden, Bobby saw a truck and because of high speed, he hit it. When Scarlett woke up, she was in her house with her father and uncle. The father explained the whole accident to Scarlett in details and said that unfortunately we lost your mother. However, the uncle did not say even a word. After a month, Scarlett recovered physically but she was still taking psychological support since she could not accept both the accident and her mother’s absence. In the meanwhile, she had to take education. Thus, she started to go to the school which was close to her house. In a short span of time, Scarlett had good relationships with her friends whose names were Natalie and Michelle. Because of getting along well together, she wanted to invite them to her house to meet her family. On the following day, they all were on the road of Scarlett’s house. When they reached there, Peter opened the door by welcoming them. After meeting with the uncle, it was time to meet with the father. As soon as they entered the living room, Scarlett said “here is my father” by signifying the sofa. Then, the friends looked her strangely and said “where?”
